Our caring team at North Finchley Dental appreciates and understands how stressful visiting the dentist can be. We also know how crucial it is for your dental health, as it is directly linked to your general overall health. When visiting us we want you to feel calm and at ease because we believe you deserve the best dental care possible. This will in turn, help you to avoid serious dental concerns.
We maintain a relaxed atmosphere to compliment our gentle approach to dentistry. We want patients to feel safe and secure. In our view making the best out of relaxation techniques is just as important as expert clinical knowledge. Keeping our patients in a relaxed and safe mindset throughout their experience with us is crucial.
Chatting to the patient is one of the most important parts of this technique. This allows us and the patient to understand each other better and talk more about the processes involved. We can then take the patient through all the various stages and guide them on what they will feel and what they can expect during any treatment. We’ve found that this allows the patient to enter the clinic with more confidence in a dentist they know and trust.
We have been carrying out Intravenous sedation in the practice for over 27 years. Intravenous sedation is an extremely safe way of reducing stress, anxiety and pain and helping you to relax.
Intravenous sedation is where a sedative agent is administered in the back of your hand or the front of your elbow. When you are sedated you will feel very relaxed, peaceful and maybe sleepy, and will be largely unaware of what is going on. However, sedation is not a general anaesthetic and you will remain conscious during the treatment, enabling you to talk to the dentist and ensuring your protective reflexes are maintained (e.g. coughing).
Once you feel drowsy and sufficiently relaxed, a local anaesthetic will be administered to numb your mouth and the dental work will commence.
The sedative used is one of the safest and most frequently used sedatives.
Afterwards you may have little or no recollection of having treatment carried out.
During your treatment your pulse and blood oxygen levels will be monitored. This monitoring will continue during the recovery period after your treatment has been completed, until the dentist is happy that you are ready to be discharged into the care of your escort.
Keeping patients satisfied and calm whilst providing top class treatment tailored to your needs is our number one priority and we pride ourselves on this. We know how to make you relax and guarantee that your visit will be both comfy and worthwhile.
